How To Remove Food Stains From Your Carpet

Carpeting in your home is an investment that must be taken care of because it is too expensive to replace when it gets stained. Knowing what product to use for specific stains is the key. Here are a few suggestions to save money and get the job done quickly.

Natural-Fiber Rugs

It is a common mistake to spill beverages such as tea, coffee, and beer on the carpet. Several products can be used to eliminate the stains. Try spraying the area with a vinegar or detergent solution using lukewarm water. Blot the area with a white dry rag.

For wine, milk, soda, hard candy, and other similar products; you should try spraying the area with an ammonia solution as well as the vinegar. This will provide an effective chemical reaction to help remove the stain.

Try using an ammonia solution for tomato sauce, ketchup, Kool-Aid, or Gatorade stains.

Synthetic-Fiber Rugs

Use a plain white paper towel dipped in detergent to remove products such as tea, berries, tomato sauce, and chocolate. Continue the process for a few minutes to remove the stain. Use a white dry cloth to remove any remaining liquid.

Try using a vinegar solution with a rag on the spots. Let the mixture soak for a few minutes. The vinegar will remove any detergent left in the carpet.

Use a pail of lukewarm water and blot the cleaned space. Be sure to let the carpet dry completely.

Tip

If you have a bad spill,  you should use white rags or paper towels to remove the liquid immediately. Step on the rag to absorb the coffee, tea, wine, or other spilled product.

Homemade Solutions

For juice spills, try spraying a bit of shaving cream on the spot and blot the stain away.

If red wine is spilled on carpet, don't be too upset. Use a white wine to dilute the stain. It should come right off if you do this while the carpet is still wet. Use some salt to sprinkle the area, and vacuum it in a few minutes.

Grease stains can be easily cleaned using a solution of one-quarter cup of dish soap with one cup of warm water. Leave it one for approximately five minutes. Blot the spot away with a clean rag.

Use two cups of water, one and one-half tablespoons of white vinegar, and one tablespoon laundry detergent for juice or similar stains. Simply apply the solution and blot it into the area.

You can also use one cup of water and one cup of vinegar as a quick product for cleaning many stains on your carpet.

The main element of cleaning the carpet is to proceed as soon as the spill occurs. Waiting too long can make the stain more stubborn. These tips should remedy most spills. For further assistance, contact carpet cleaning service professionals.
