Although beer tastes great, if it spills on your carpet, it can leave behind a smelly stain. Here is what you need to do to get a beer stain out of your carpet. This method works best if you clean up the spill as soon as it occurs.
Blot The Stain
As soon as the spill occurs, the first thing you need to do is go and grab a bunch of paper towels. The more you spiled, the more paper towels you need. Take the paper towels and use them to blot up the beer. Try to pick up and clean as much beer as possible with the paper towels; this will make the rest of the clean-up process much easier.
Sponge The Area
The next thing you need to do is sponge the area. Use a sponge or rag, and dip it in either club soda or water. Wring it out so that it is not dripping wet; then use it to sponge up the remaining beer and to start the cleaning process. This will help pull up and dilute the beer that was spilled on your carpet.
Get Rid Of The Smell
The biggest thing that spilled beer leaves behind on your carpet is an unpleasant smell. In order to get rid of that smell, you are going to want to make a white vinegar and water solution. Mix 1 cup of white vinegar with 2 cups of warm water.
Then take a rag and dip it into the solution. Take the rag and blot at the stain area; make sure that you blot at the stain and the area surrounding it. This solution will neutralize the smell that is left behind by the beer and will help clean up the stain.
If you don't have white vinegar, you can mix some dish soap with warm water and use that instead. It should kill the smell and clean up the stain, although it may take a little more work to get rid of the smell than if you had used the vinegar solution.
Clean The Area
Finally, you want to clean the area to get rid of any white vinegar and/or dish soap that got left behind. Take a wet rag and sponge the area, then blot the area dry with a dry rag or with some paper towels. This will help absorb the water and cleaning residue that is now in your carpet.
