3 Practical Ways To Keep Your Tile Floor Cleaner

In terms of long-term durability and high versatility, it doesn't get much better than a tile floor. However, tile does have its hiccups with the main one being keeping it clean. When a tile floor is dirty, it can have an effect on the look of the entire room. Fortunately, there are some things you can do to keep your floor cleaner, longer.

Choose The Right Cleaner

Even if you're being diligent about mopping your floor, if you're using the wrong type of cleaning solution to go about this process, you're making a mistake. You should never be used a soap or detergent based agent to clean your tile floors.

These agents leave behind a film or residue, similar to soap scum left behind in your shower. While your floor isn't necessarily dirty, this residue left behind from this cleaning mistake makes it appear dirty and causes it to feel grimy. Only use those solutions designed specifically for tile floors.

Wear Socks

If you and your family remove your shoes before walking inside your home, you're on the right track. Take your efforts further by wearing socks or house slippers when you're walking on the tile floor. Your body has natural oils all along the surface of your skin and your feet are no exception.

When you walk barefooted you put some of this oil on the floor. Overtime, this oil builds up and since oil can act as somewhat of an adhesive, you end up attracting more dirt to the tile. Minimize the oil and you can minimize some of the dirt.

Check For Grout Haze

If your tile floor always seems to be dirty no matter what you do, it might be time to get on the floor and check for grout haze. This is especially important if the floors are newly installed. It's easy to leave small traces of grout on the surface of the tile. From afar it looks like dirt, but in reality, it's just built up grout.

Correcting the problem is as simple as buffing the extra grout away. If you are unable to safely do this on your own, call the installer and ask if they can come out and do this for you since this is something they should have probably done as part of the installation process.

It's important to note that even with your extra effort, your tile will eventually get dirty. When a mop and heavy-duty cleaner will no longer do the trick, make sure you're calling on a professional like Leo's Holland Floor Maintenance to clean your tile and restore it to its natural beauty.
